Sunday Snow Gravel Ride

January 18, 2010

I was itching for a ride yesterday.  The sun was shining, the temperature was a balmy 36 F.  It had to be done. I took a similar route to a ride I took in November.  Two of the pictures are the same, just different seasons.  I decided to ride my Monocog.  The big tires seemed like a good idea to deal with the snow covered roads.  I had a WTB Weirwolf on the front and a Kenda Nevegal on the rear.  I was out for about 100 minutes.  Covered 19 miles, mostly snow covered gravel.  The warm weather melted some of the snow and the roads got sloppy.  By the end of the ride, both the bike and I were a mess.  Enjoy the scenery and get out and ride.

Yes, We Are Open

December 9, 2009

I rode the bike to work today and we are open.  But only until 6:00.  Jon was not brave enough to drive to Northfield today.  He’s at home in his snuggy.

I even shoveled out the bike rack if you want to ride to the store.

Gravel Ride

December 4, 2009

The weather has been pretty nice this fall which makes for good riding.  I took these pictures the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  I’m not entirely sure where I was riding, but it was south of Northfield on gravel roads. I rode for two hours covering 30 miles. The Temperature was 33-35 F.  These country roads have a lot of nice hills.Valley Grove church

Fall Ride

November 2, 2009

I spent part of yesterday in Murphy Hannrehan park riding my Jake the Snake.  It was a beautiful day.  This bike can handle almost anything.  I started on paved roads, then hit the gravel before jumping on the single track at Murphy. Get out and ride before the snow flies.MH1

July 31, 2009

Why Bike stuff at a book store? Why not, I say. We still have two Kona Africabikes in stock. Both are single speeds. I really dig these bikes. Simple transportation for town use and a great cause.

Today’s delivery from UPS had a box of bike goodies. Gloves, socks, Carb Boom gels, and some pumpsInline-Current-colon-CLT-2Inline-Current-colon-SOSWNG-2.

Monocog Ride Report

April 21, 2009

redline_monocog_29_grey

I took my new Redline Monocog out for it’s maiden voyage last Saturday. I had the chance to ride  Murphy-Hanrehan.  Murphy is my favorite trail in the metro.  The ride starts out rather easy and gets progressively more difficult with lots of logs and rocks to maneuver. The bike handled beautifully.  The Monocog is a single speed 29er.  One gear, 29 inch wheels and a steel frame.  It’s a bare bones bike without disc brakes.  Simplicity at it’s best, something I really like. I was amazed at how easily it handled this course. It didn’t take much effort to get the bike rolling and once I had it moving it was a breeze.  I had no problem keeping up with riders on full suspension bikes.  In fact, I passed many riders on high end bikes.

Ben Witt at Milltown Cycles sold me this bike in January. Ben knows his stuff when it comes to bikes.  I think he learned a lot from Mike at Mike’s Bikes and has grown a really nice shop in Faribault.  Ben just posted this video on his blog.  I’ve walked those stairs at St. Olaf.  I can’t imagine riding a bike up them, but he makes it look easy.  Tip of the hat and a cool Summit to Ben.  Love the bike man.

The VP-1 Patch Kit includes six thin and flexible patches with tapered edges to blend with the tube’s profile. Four round patches are 25 mm in diameter for smaller holes. Two oval patches, 25 mm x 35 mm, are for wider cuts. A tube of self-vulcanizing fluid bonds the patch to the tube at the molecular level. Each kit is packaged in a small plastic box with sandpaper for cleaning the tube and instructions.
