New Arrivals

April 30, 2010

A couple of important books landed in the store today.  Well, they are important to me.  I hope they are important to others as well.

Coop: a Family, a Farm, and the Pursuit of One Good Egg my Mike Perry just came out in paperback. This was one of my favorite books last year.  I’ll read it again in paperback.  It’s that good. While we are on the topic of Mike, Tiny Pilot, his latest cd(Mike’s a singer too), has been selling well.  We sold out of the first batch and our second order just arrived.  Stop by if you want to give it a listen. I really like the tunes. His band, the Longbeds, really does a great job of bringing these stories to life.

Another book I’m excited about just hit the store today.  BIKE SNOB: Systematically & Mercilessly Realigning the World of Cycling. Biksnobnyc is one of the best blogs about biking. He can write.  The book is much more than an extension of his blog.

Here’s a synopsis from his publisher:

BikeSnobNYC—cycling’s most prolific, well-known, hilarious, blogger—brings a fresh and humorous perspective to the most important vehicle to hit personal transportation since the horse.Bike Snob treats readers to a laugh-out-loud rant and rave about the world of bikes and their riders, and offers a unique look at the ins and outs of cycling, from its history and hallmarks to its wide range of bizarre practitioners. Throughout, the author lampoons the missteps, pretensions, and absurdities of bike culture while maintaining a contagious enthusiasm for cycling itself. Bike Snob is an essential volume for anyone who knows, is, or wants to become a cyclist.

What I’ve read so far, I really enjoy.  This is a must read for cyclists.

What a gorgeous spring we are having in Minnesota.  Perfect for riding. I’ve been able to ride a little bit of everything, roads, gravel, dirt. Here are some of my latest ride photos from the area.

Obie Holmen Reading April 20 7:30pm

April 18, 2010

Obie Holmen will read from A Wretched Man: A Novel of Paul the Apostle Tuesday, April 20 at 7:30 pm.

This novel is set amidst the swirling currents of bloody oppression and resistance, factionalism, and clashing cultures along the eastern shores of the Great Sea, stretching from the cosmopolitan Greco-Roman cities of Antioch in the north and Alexandria in the south.  Here, the first century world of the Pax Romana was anything but peaceful, and Hebrew culture and religion struggled for survival against the seductive influences of Hellenism.
